Taxonomic Notes

Sundanian material is referable to ssp. everetti.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, China, Taiwan, Burma, Sumatra, Java, Borneo.

Habitat preference

Bornean material is restricted to the holotype of everetti, from G. Kinabalu.

Biology

The larva of the typical Himalayan race was described by Bell & Scott (1937). Early instars are green marked with pale blue. The final instar has a pale blue head. The body is dorsally yellow, grading laterally to pale grass green or bluish green, the flanks of the abdomen crossed strongly by long, oblique, pale blue stripes. The thorax is longitudinally striped. The pair of tumescent ocelli on A1 have deep blue pupils edged broadly with pale blue, white, then narrowly with black. The horn is dark blue.

Recorded host-plants are: Dichroa, Hydrangea (Saxifragaceae); Vitis (Vitidaceae).
