Diagnosis
The forewing margin is irregular in shape, strongly concave over the anterior part, and the hindwing has the fringes expanded to give a third tail between the usual two.
The medial zone on both wings bounded by the antemedial and postmedial fasciae is distinctly and uniformly darker than the areas on either side See also the similar new species described under “Epiplema” saccata sp. n. and “Gathynia” mesilauensis Holloway).
Taxonomic Notes
The Bornean subspecies is smaller, greyer than the typical race, which has a rufous brown tone.

N.E. Himalaya, Taiwan; Borneo (ssp. kinabalua)
Habitat preference
The original material of the Bornean subspecies was taken from 1500m to 1930m on G. Kinabalu, but during the Mulu survey the species was recorded mostly in hill dipterocarp forest at 150m and 500m, and once in lower montane forest at 1000m, all on the transect of G. Mulu.
Biology
The species has been reared from the family Rubiaceae in Taiwan (S.-H. Yen, pers. comm.).
