Diagnosis

This species and Collix intrepida Prout are similar in external appearance, resembling rather pale brown Collix species but lacking the prominent, raised forewing discal spot.

P. hyperythra* is smaller, with less angled forewing postmedials, more prominent discal spots and, on the underside, strong black markings, particularly the discal spots and postmedials: these last are not seen in intrepida.

Taxonomic Notes

There is some variation in the form of the saccular processes of the valve through the range of the species: in Bornean males these are particularly broad on the left valve and long on the right, the genitalia being generally relatively robust. There is also variation in the breadth of the funnel- like ductus.

Geographical Range

Sri Lanka, India to Taiwan (ssp. catalalia) and Japan (incl. Ryukyu Is.), Burma, Borneo, Java, Luzon, Sulawesi.

Habitat Preference

So far only known from G. Kinabalu, the species is infrequent from 1760m to 2110m.
