Diagnosis

The depth and breadth of the hindwing apical brown patch, with the white postmedial fascia in a relatively more basal position, distinguish this species from the next two. The hindwing postmedial is more strongly angled and the marginal tornal zone extensively suffused with white.

Geographical Range

Indo-Australian tropics east to New Guinea and Queensland.

Habitat Preference

Most records have been from a variety of lowland forest types, where the species is rare. One specimen was taken at 1618m on Bukit Retak, Brunei.

Biology

Bell (MS) described the larva in S. India. It has typical Comibaeniti shape with tubercles and looped posture, head and thoracic segments tucked ventrally, and characteristic behaviour swaying from side to side. The body surface is granular, the colour a pinkish brown with a darker dorsal band. The edges of the lateral tubercles are ochreous yellowish. The larva attaches particles of detritus to the tubercles. It feeds in the flower panicles of the host-plant. Pupation is in a compact cocoon containing detritus. The host-plants were Buchanania and Mangifera (Anacardiaceae).
