Plusiogramma aurisigna (sic) Hampson; Kiriakoff, 1968: 257.

Diagnosis

The deep, rich, reddish brown forewings with a variable amount of silver decoration distinguish this species.

Taxonomic Notes

The male genitalia illustrated by Kiriakoff (1968) are of argentata Oberthur, not aurosigna as stated.

The only other species in the genus is P. argentata from China.

In the male genitalia of argentata the tegumen is narrower than long, longer than in aurosigna, and the uncus is very much smaller, entire rather than bilobed.

The taxon Pygaera denticulata Oberthur, based on a female from the same locality as the holotype male of argentata, may merely be the female of that species.

Geographical range

S. Burma (Tenasserim), Borneo, Sumatra (Kiriakoff 1974).

Habitat preference

The species is only known in Borneo from two males taken at Badas, an area of Brunei with much swamp forest.
