Pasiphila sayata Holloway stat. n.comb. n.

Chloroclystis oribates sayata Holloway, 1976: 68.

Diagnosis

is the largest Bornean species, with most specimens having the forewing relatively uniform dark brown, with the postmedial and antemedial fasciae only slightly edged paler, the former whitened on the interior element only opposite the disc. The hindwings are darker grey than in other species with only the postmedial fascia emphasised to any degree. Distinction from coelica is discussed under that species.

Taxonomic Notes

See P. coelica notes above. The two Bornean species appear to be more closely related to each other than to the Javan P. oribates* Prout comb. n. both with regard to curvature of the valve costa (straight in oribates) and the cornuti of the aedeagus vesica (oribates has one large cornutus and a series of smaller ones), hence they are probably best both treated as distinct species.

Geographical Range

Borneo.

Habitat Preference

This is one of four species characteristic of the Kinabalu summit zone (Holloway, 1970). Most records are from 2970m to 3750m, though one specimen was taken at 2600m. The main habitat consists of subsummit dwarf forest amid areas of exposed granodiorite rock.
