Image of Nodaria cingala Moore ♂

Nodaria cingala Moore stat. rev.

Nodaria cingala Moore, [1885] 1884-1887: 233.

Diagnosis

See the previous species. The forewing postmedial is more sinuous, reaching the dorsum more at a right angle than obliquely, closer to the antemedial, having diverged more from the submarginal.

Taxonomic note

The Bornean specimens and material from further east have paler (or more faded) forewings than material from the type locality, such that the paler hindwings do not contrast so strikingly with them. The male genitalia vary slightly through the range of the species.

Geographical range

Sri Lanka; Borneo, Sulawesi, Seram.

Habitat preference

The only specimens seen are a male from Labuan, an island with much habitation and other human disturbance, a male from Bettotan in Sabah and a female from Kuching in Sarawak, also areas of habitation in the lowlands. One of the series of Nodaria specimens collected by A.R. Wallace from Sarawak (see previous species) is cingala.
