Diagnosis
The male is slightly paler, warmer brown than Melanothrix nymphaliaria Walker, with a narrower white patch on the forewing, distally crenulate.
The female has a smaller basal black patch on the forewing, a rectangle based on the costa.
Taxonomic Notes
The species was described from a female from G. Kinabalu; the male was described by Holloway (1976). The apical processes of the valve in the male genitalia vary somewhat as illustrated.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
All specimens have been taken above 1500m, on G. Kinabalu, G. Mulu and Bukit Retak, in upper montane forest.
