“Mataeomera” renalis Hampson
Catoblemma renalis Hampson, 1918, Novit. zool., 25: 160.
Diagnosis
The general appearance is somewhat similar to species of the herminiine genus H ydrillodes Guenée, with a rather long medium brown forewings, and hindwings of a similar shade but slightly greyer. There is a darker reniform patch on the forewing, with an irregular medial just distal to it and a similar postmedial slightly more distad; both these fasciae are flexed round the discal spot. There is also a hint of an irregular, pale submarginal, but the specimen is worn.
Taxonomic note
The holotype was discovered to have had the abdomen of a male Daona mansueta Walker (Holloway, 2008: 16) glued on.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
The species has not been taken in recent surveys, and older material is restricted to the holotype female, collected in Sarawak, probably in the lowlands, by A.R. Wallace.
Biology
Robinson et al. (2001) attributed a host record of Bambusa (Gramineae) by Bell (MS) in S. India to Catoblemma renalis. However, location of a voucher specimen has indicated that this should be attributed to Rivula renalis Moore, a junior synonym of R. pallida Moore.
