Diagnosis
All three Bornean species have forewing facies with dull yellow and purple-grey banding. The male of purpurea has a more broadly yellowish costal zone to the hindwing, though the anal angle is less produced than in the other two: there is a fringe of scales on the underside of the forewing. The females are similar to those of triangularis Hampson but a darker purple with more definite yellow fasciation.
Geographical Range
Sri Lanka, India, Taiwan, Andamans, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.
Habitat Preference
All specimens have been from various lowland forest types, the highest record being from 500m.
Biology
The species has been reared from Shorea (Dipterocarpaceae) fruits in Peninsular Malaysia (R. Toy, pers. comm.).
