Loepa martinii Brechlin & Paukstadt
Loepa megacore Jordan, 1911, Novit. Zool., 18: 132.
Loepa megacore Jordan; Allen, 1981: 114; Lampe, 1985: 10.
Loepa katinka sensu Holloway, 1976: 85.
Diagnosis
This species is larger than sikkima and is best distinguished from it and katinka Westwood by the absence of pink in the subbasal line of the forewing, or only a hint of it; the subbasal is also more heavily black and irregular in course.
Taxonomic Note
The Bornean population previously attributed to Loepa megacore has been separated as L. martinii Brechlin & U. Paukstadt (2010) on the basis of DNA barcoding results. The forewing antemedial is more prominently black. Brechlin (2010a) has described nine new taxa in Loepa from China to Sulawesi, though none of these was from Borneo.
Geographical range
Sundaland.
Habitat preference
Most specimens have been taken in upper montane forest on G. Kinabalu and G. Mulu, but the only record for Brunei was in lowland forest in Ulu Temburong.
Biology
Nässig (in press, a) has described the larva. It is typical of the genus but with the lateral triangular patches darker green than in other species, their anterior angles white.
