Leucoblepsis excisa Hampson

Drepana excisa Hampson, 1892, Fauna Br. India (Moths), 1: 338.

Problepsidis carneotincta Warren, 1901, Novit. zool., 8 :191, syn. n.

Diagnosis

The facies is typical of the genus, but with flesh pink areas and tinting as in neoma Swinhoe.

The band distad to the hindwing postmedial is whitish, with a straight, dark border distal, rather than dark grey broken by white submarginal lunules.

Such dark grey with pale lunules is found, however, on the forewing of excisa, whereas this zone is more flesh coloured in neoma, distal to a larger hyaline patch.

Taxonomic Notes

The male genitalia of excisa and carneotincta are very similar, though the uncus is more produced apically and the scobinate arms of the anellus are longer in the former.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, Taiwan (Wang, 1995); Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (ssp. carneotincta).

Habitat preference

Only three specimens have been taken in recent surveys, two from alluvial forest near Long Pala (70m) at the foot of G. Mulu and one from dipterocarp forest at 350m in the Ulu Temburong of Brunei.
