Hypulia continua Walker

Geometra continua Walker, 1861, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 22: 527.

Nadagara impervisata Walker, 1862, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 24: 1687.

Diagnosis

Both this species and strictiva Prout have the forewing postmedials rather diffuse, and running in a gentle curve, concave distad, from just subdorsally to just subapically. In the other two species these are clearly defined (also the hindwing postmedial), straight and more basally placed.

H. continua* is larger, with a slight central angle to the margins of both wings. It is these two species that have ridges in the bursa of the female genitalia, two in strictiva and about ten in continua. In the male the pseudouncus is apically broad, spatulate in continua, long, slender, apically bifid/triangular in strictiva.

Taxonomic Notes

Walker stat. rev. is removed from synonymy with continua; the male genitalia show it to be distinct.

Habitat Preference

Very few specimens are known, most from forested, low lying land in Sarawak and Brunei.
