The red and grey facies is distinctive, though reminiscent of some scopuline Sterrhinae, such as in the genus Somatina Guenée.
Taxonomic note
The author identified Hyalostola phoenicochyta amongst photographs of Geometridae from a sampling programme in Thailand being coordinated by C. Dickinson.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
The three specimens taken in recent surveys are from lowland swampy and coastal forest in Brunei.
