Hyalospectra altipustularia Holloway sp. n.

Hyalospectra pustularia Walker sensu Holloway, 1976: 92.

Diagnosis

♂♀ 14-15mm.

The general appearance is much as in pustularia but the new species is larger with the postmedial hyaline areas expanded relative to the antemedial brown markings.

The pale submarginal markings are more sagittate.

The male genitalia are more slender than in pustularia and the next species, the uncus deeper, its processes narrower as is the distal portion of the valve.

The saccus is longer, apically square and slightly constricted centrally.

The female genitalia of pustularia differ from those of altipustularia in having the pouch around the ostium rugose rather than pilose, and the expanded base of the ductus has a diagnostic pair of pits within it.

In altipustularia the bursa is shorter but the signum is larger. Holotype ♂. SABAH: Mt Kinabalu, ‘Power Station’, 1930m vii-ix.1965, Cambridge Expedition to Mt Kinabalu 1965 (H.J. Banks, H.S. Barlow & J.D. Holloway), BM drepanid slide 1971.
