Heterolocha polymorphoides Holloway sp. n.

Heterolocha polymorpha West sensu Holloway, 1976: 76.

♂♂ 14-15mm, ♀♀ 15-16mm. The facies of this species is very similar to that of H. polymorpha West (Luzon) and H. falconaria Walker (Himalaya) in the sinuous shape of the forewing postmedial, and particularly of the latter in the subcostal displacement distad of a section of the hindwing postmedial. It lacks the dark spots on the anterior of the forewing postmedial seen in many specimens of falconaria. It is distinguished best on features of the male genitalia. The aedeagus has a rod-like cornutus with a spined apex not seen in the other two species. The furca arms in polymorpha are longer and very slender. The globular part of the coremata is somewhat turned round on itself in falconaria, simply round in polymorpha, narrower with a slight secondary lobe ventrally in polymorphoides. H. polymorpha has genitalia characteristics similar to those of the Chinese H. aristonaria Walker.

Geographical range

Borneo, Sumatra, Java.

Habitat preference

The only Bornean locality known for this species is G. Kinabalu where it is common from 1200m to 1930m.
