Diagnosis

The male is darker, more uniform brown than ochracea with a distinctive longitudinal streak and subapical pale zone on the forewing.

This pale zone is evident in the paler female, but more faintly: the fasciation is as in the male but without the dark longitudinal streak.

The species is distinguished from similar congeners by the acute apex to the valve (cf. excavate) and the presence of a spur distally on the sacculus.

Taxonomic Notes

There is some variation in development of the double interior flange of the processes of the eighth sternite through the range of the species.

There are two related species: thwaitesii Moore ( + apicalis Hampson, syn. n.), from Sri Lanka, with a pentagonal male eighth tergite; an undescribed species from S. India with an H-shaped eighth tergite.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, Burma, Sundaland, Palawan, Sulawesi.

Habitat preference

Bornean material has all been taken in lowland rainforest localities.
