Cossus kinabaluensis Gaede, 1933: 809.

Cossus kinabaluensis Gaede; Roepke, 1957: 6; Holloway, 1976: 88; Barlow, 1982: 43.

Diagnosis

This species is, with vandeldeni, larger than all other Bornean species. Most of the forewing is brown, divided from a striate, bone grey apical zone by a sharp, slightly concave margin. There is a dark brown streak medially, subdorsally.

Geographical Range

Sundaland.

Habitat Preference

Most recent specimens have been taken at about 1000-1700m in the montane forest zone, e.g. on Bukit Retak (Brunei) and G. Kinabalu, but older specimens appear to have been caught in the lowlands, as do those in other parts of the range (Roepke 1957).

Taxonomic Note

This species was previously placed in the genus Cossus. See the genus Groenendaalia for more details.
