Cotuza confirmata Walker, 1859, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (zool.) 3: 197.
Ginaea pectoralis Walker, 1864, J. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 190.
Gespanna pectoralis Walker, 2005, Moths of Borneo 15-16: 298.
Diagnosis
The deep, slightly falcate forewings with a strongly convex distal margin have a white reniform broken into two, the posterior component weakly larger, but both may be obscure. Distal to the reniform the postmedial has a distinct double angle. The forewing fasciation is continued on the hindwing.
Taxonomic notes
The holotype (OUMNH: 2663) of Cotuza confirmata Walker (1859, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (zool.) 3: 197, Malacca) proves this taxon to be a senior synonym of Gespanna pectoralis Walker, syn. n. Therefore this species now becomes Gespanna confirmata Walker comb. n.
Geographical range
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference
This is a frequent lowland forest species, including heath forest and forest on limestone. Several specimens were taken in lower montane forest at 1000m on G. Mulu.
