Eulepa fusimacula Holloway sp. n.

♂♀ 12mm. The forewing pattern in this species differs markedly from that of congeners, having a central ‘Y’ shaped area of variegated green and cream instead of the four pale spots. There are zones of black basal and distal to the ‘Y’ and within its angle. The marginal zone is broadly green and cream, with small black triangles at the actual margin and a small black patch one third from the apex. On the underside the forewings are uniform dark grey except at the margin and dorsum. The other taxa have two pale spots corresponding to the central ones of the upperside. In the male genitalia the valves are only slightly curved over the apical portion; the clavus is more acute and sinuous than in niveigutta and altigutta. In the female genitalia the ovipositor lobes are more acute and the appendix bursae smaller than in other taxa.

Borneo.

Habitat preference

All material is from lowland dipterocarp or alluvial forest.

Taxonomic Note

It is probable, from the illustrations in the original description, that Pseudosiccia Roepke (type species lichenaria Roepke, Java) is a synonym of Eulepa Walker and that the type species is closely related to, or a senior synonym of, fusimacula Holloway. Martini & Thöny (1993) recorded several specimens of fusimacula over an altitude range of 800m to 1500m, and tentatively included the Philippines in its geographical range. The potential relationship of Eulepa were discussed in Part 13, p. 59.
