Diagnosis

The abdomen has no red rings but two pale yellow ones with blue ones between them (two) and distal to them; the basal transparent area of the hindwing is partly white. There is a single, elongate yellow patch in the most posterior space of the forewing, indented posteriorly where that of the previous species is divided by a black band.

Geographical range

Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Lesser Sundas, Christmas I.

Habitat preference

The species flies in the lowlands, often in open habitats.

Biology

Horsfield & Moore (1858-1859) illustrated the larva and cocoon. The former is dull reddish with a black head, dorsal pairs of long hair tufts from T2 and T3, smaller, similar tufts from A9 posteriorly, and the intervening abdominal segments each invested with narrow but extensive transverse saddles of short, dense black setae are embedded in the large silken cocoon. The host-plant recorded was Dioscorea (Dioscoreaceae).
