Egnasia overdijkinki Prout
Egnasia overdijkinki Prout, 1932, Bull. Hill Mus. Witley, 4: 285.
Diagnosis and taxonomic note
The species is very similar to the Himalayan E. rectilineata Swinhoe (see also the next species for females), with distinctly irregular wing margins, a reddish-ochreous brown ground colour, with fine, darker brown fasciation. There are nacreous discal spots on all wings, that of the hindwing larger than that of the forewing, irregular, with a small subsidiary lobe arising from it on the costal side. The male genitalia differ from those of rectilineatain having longer, slender valve processes and a more angled fused section of the valves basally. The uncus is very broad, squarish, spined, and there are lobes on the tegumen basal to it. The aedeagus is much narrower, with a simple, narrow vesica that has delicate spines at its apex. Bornean material and a male from Nias have the dorsal arm of the valve with more slender processes, but the saccular arm is more robust. The uncus is narrower, but the lobes on the tegumen are larger.
Geographical range
Java, Nias, ?Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.
Habitat preference
The species is rare, represented by old material from Sarawak and Pulo Laut, and a female from alluvial forest at 100m near the western end of the Melinau Gorge, taken during the Mulu survey. Two specimens were taken in lowland forest at 170m near the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah.
