Dipterygina vagivitta Walker comb. n.

Dypterygia vagivitta Walker, 1862, *J.Linn. Soc. Lond. (Zool.)*6:185, three syntypes in U.M. Oxford, one of which is the next species. The male (1/3) hereby designated LECTOTYPE and so labelled.

Diagnosis

This and the next species are very similar but the next has a paler major step mark on the forewing dorsum, the basal margin of which is more strongly bilobed and oblique rather than perpendicular to the dorsum. The shape and ornamentation of the aedeagus vesica differ, with dorsipallens having a weaker and more distal patch of spines; the finger-like process of the valve apex is shorter and broader in dorsipallens.

Taxonomic notes

The subspecies obscurior Warren from Christmas I. in the Indian Ocean probably represents a distinct species.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The species is rare, found from the lowlands to about 1200m.
