Diagnosis

The forewing margin is strongly excavate subapically, such that the wing apex is almost bifalcate.

The hindwings are narrow, triangular.

The ground colour is grey, irrorated browner, and there are pale discal spots on fore- and hindwings.

The latter have two fine dark lines running parallel to the straight margin.

Taxonomic Notes

Material from Seram (slide 400) has a much smaller spine-like distal production of the valve costa than in the Himalayan specimen illustrated.

Geographical range

Indian Subregion, Taiwan, Borneo, Java, Seram.

Habitat preference

The only Bornean specimen was taken at 1930m (upper montane zone) on G. Kinabalu.

Biology

The species has been reared in Taiwan (Chen, 1997). The larva is cylindrical, with a rufous head and a translucent greyish body with black spots on the head and ringing each segment.

The host-plant was a species of Wendlandia (Rubiaceae).
