Diagnosis

The species is marked with greyish pink on a pale fawn to bone-coloured ground, the darkest and best defined markings being the forewing postmedial and a contiguous fascia on the hindwing; distal to the latter centrally are two white marks enclosed by dark lunules. There is some variation from uniform pinkish to more variegated specimens. The fringes are dark.

Geographical Range

N.E. Himalaya, Burma, Borneo, Sumatra.

Habitat Preference

All recent specimens have been taken in montane forests: at 900m on G. Api; from 1000m to 1790m on G. Mulu; at 1618m on Bukit Retak; from 1500m to 2110m on G. Kinabalu. In the BMNH is a specimen from 2200m on Bukit Raja, Sarawak, and the holotype of xerophylla is from a similar altitude on G. Murud.
