Diagnosis

This species could be confused with Theretra rhesus but is larger, a slightly brighter green on the forewing and with a more extensive pale submarginal band on the hindwing (restricted to the tornus in rhesus). The abdomen is laterally dark brown rather than black at the base.

The wing below and side of the abdomen are yellow, the hindwings with longitudinal fawn streaks.

The dorsum of the abdomen has four longitudinal pale bands as in rhesus but the outer two are stronger rather than the inner two.

Biology

The larva was described by bell & Scott (1937) who recorded the following host-plants: Impatiens (Balsaminaceae); Savravia (Actinidaceae); Polygonum (Polygonaceae); Vitis (Vitidaceae).
