Bhima borneana Holloway sp. n.

Diagnosis

♂♂ 25-27mm.

The species resembles B. undulosa in general facies but the wing markings are dull, ochreous, pale brown, rather than grey, also the thorax; the pale area of the hindwing is more extensive.

In the male genitalia the valves are basally narrower than in undulosa and thus more evenly tapered overall.

The cubile arms terminate in an angled, rather than rounded, sclerotisation.

The ventroapical spur from the aedeagus is larger and more evenly curved and tapered.

Paratype

• 3 ♂♂ general data as holotype but Site 25, April, G. Api, 900m, 427550, lower montane forest
• 2 ♂♂ BRUNEI: 300m, Ulu Temburong rain forest, 24.4.81 (Lt. Col. M.G. Allen).

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

During the Mulu survey six were recorded from montane forest on the limestone G. Api and six from regenerating alluvial forest in the lowlands.

The Brunei specimens were from dipterocarp forest.

Biology

This is not known but possibly similar to that described for B. undulosa in the generic account.
