Asta subnigra Holloway sp. n.

♂♂ 18-21mm. Externally the species can only be distinguished from the previous one by the underside of the forewings, which are black rather than a uniform grey with the hindwings; the latter are a paler, more fawn colour in subnigra. The male genitalia are similar to those of A. quadrilinea but are more elongate and tapering both distad and basad from the broadest point at two-thirds. There are lateral hair-pencils on small coremata between the second and third abdominal segments.

Geographical range

Borneo, Sumatra, India (slide 17539).

Habitat preference

Though rarer than quadrilinea, the recorded altitude range is almost as great.
