Diagnosis
The male is dull brown with crenulate fasciae and a broad, diffuse, dark medial band on each wing.
The apex and tornus of the forewing and the marginal zone of the hindwing are sometimes broadly paler.
The female has more clearly defined submarginals, with the zone distal to them paler than the ground.
The ocelli have broad transparent areas.
Taxonomic Notes
The original illustration of jana, if accurate, shows a male insect smaller and yellower than those generally attributed to that species; however, the course and diffuseness of the forewing medial is compatible.
The name andamana Moore is applicable to this taxon should the current concept of jana prove erroneous.
However, if the type of the latter can be proven lost, it would be in the interest of stability to designate the holotype of andamana as neotype of jana.

Sundaland, Andamans, Burma.
Habitat preference
The species is rare in lowland rainforest.
