The genus Ambadra was reviewed by Holloway (1982a). Bornean specimens are attributed to ssp. borneensis Roepke.
Geographical range
Sundaland, Sulawesi.
Habitat preference
The species has been taken infrequently in a wide range of lowland, mainly forested, habitats including dry heath forest; a single specimen was taken at 1618 m on Bukit Retak, Brunei.
Biology
CIE records state the larva feeds on Elaeis guineensis (oil palm, introduced) in Malaysia.
Taxonomic Note
Schintlmeister (1994b: 221) noted wide variation in features of the male genitalia of Ambadra rafflesi and suggested that a species complex might be involved. He treated Ambadra as a good genus in this work and in S & P (2007), but earlier (Schintlmeister 1993: 189) placed it as a subgenus of Turnaca Walker.
