Diagnosis

The reddish brown facies of this and Alompra ferruginea Moore is distinctive.

Alompra ferruginea Moore is smaller, darker, with narrower forewings that, in the male, have convex margins centrally rather than concave ones.

The valve is divided in roepkei, entire but bifid in ferruginea.

Taxonomic Notes

Tams recognised specimens from Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra as distinct subspecies (sarotes Tams and pella Tams respectively) on minor differences of facies and the form of the male eighth sternite, This is probably unjustified in comparison with the major differences in races of ferruginea.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya, Sundaland.

Habitat preference

The species is rare but recorded from forested localities up to 1700m.
