Achaea simplex Walker

Diagnosis
The forewings are a uniform medium brownish grey with a darker discal spot and fine, faint and sinuous postmedial fasciae. The hindwing has the distal half dark grey-brown with the marginal white patches typical of the genus, but the basal half is white.
Taxonomic note
Holloway (1982: 234) suggested that *simplex *might belong with the *mercatoria *Fabricius species group of the *serva *complex but could not confirm this without a male specimen. The only Bornean specimen is male and matches more easterly material seen, all female, in facies. The male genitalia are characteristic of the genus, though the main portion of the uncus is unusually trifid.

Waigeo, Mysol, N. Moluccas, Sulawesi, ?Borneo.
Habitat preference
The single Bornean specimen examined is from Kota Batu in the lowlands of Brunei.
